home made chili

chili pie

I got myself a slow cooker. Chili pie is the first of my creations to be borne of this wonderful machine.

Click here for a pic of the toppings.

In retrospect, I should have cooked the beans before adding them to the pot. I thought they would be fine, but they were still a little hard. So I have the slower cooker on low right now, in hopes that the beans will soften.

siopao plus a new cwidget

uncooked siopao

I'm steaming these as I'm updating. A lot of them look like they were going to burst. I tried to fix them, but since I let them sit longer than I was supposed to (I was out buying my new pan, pictured below), they didn't stick very well. Any case, we'll see how it turns out. The ones I've steamed so far have been fine, though. It's dark now, so I'll take pictures tomorrow.

This time I started around 7:45 and didn't stop till just now. I did do some things in between, while the dough was rising, so it's not like last time when I was cooking literally all day.

As usual, no recipe for this since it's not mine or my mom's.

Because of [info]ss_biggie's takoyaki tutorial, I'm inspired to attempt takoyaki even though I've always thought it would be too difficult. I probably won't get to try it until next weekend, but that's okay.

I bought this cast iron takoyaki pan at Daiso for $3. I like the round one on Amazon, but $3 vs $25 was pretty much a no brainer -- especially since I have no idea what's going to happen. I could justify the more expensive pan if I use this one somewhat regularly.

cookie prep

As I was setting up for this shot to showcase my new bowls, I realized I created a lot more dishes to wash. But it actually made the mixing easier because I didn't have to stop in the middle to measure anything.

skillet lasagna

skillet lasagna

My sister gave me this recipe for skillet lasagna -- it's cooked on the stovetop in one pan -- that's really tasty. I think a coworker gave it to her, so I have to ask if it's okay to post online before I do so.

It's really easy and it allowed me to use the new hand blender I bought today. For once, it was the same price at Bed, Bath and Beyond, so I bought local and saved myself a wait.

My bf and I both packed some for bento tomorrow.

Alterations:
Omitted pork, used 1 lb ground beef instead
Used mozzarella cheese instead of ricotta
