grilled crab n cheese

grilled crab n cheese

Winged it on this one. A bit of vegan mayo, a ton of cheddar, some cayenne on garlic bread fried in a bit of butter. With frozen TJ fries.

game day menu

All recipes are from from the Food Network. I substituted vegan mayonnaise for regular in the two recipe requiring mayo.

Hot Crab Dip

Hot Crab Dip )
Notes:
- Added cheddar
- Used Taco Bell Hot Sauce

I will definitely make the crab dip again. It didn't photograph very well since it's one color, but it was delicious. We ate the whole 8x8 pan!

Spicy Chinese Five-Spice Chicken Wings

Spicy Chinese Five-Spice Chicken Wings )

Boneless, skinless tenders instead of wings

I actually didn't like the wings that much. They were much better with the dipping sauce below, but I think next time I will make a more traditional spice blend for the chicken.

I discovered I can eat sour cream as long as it's cultured. I read online somewhere that it's cultured sour cream has the same bacteria as yogurt. These bacteria break down the lactose, which is what my system can't digest. Hooray!

soup nazi, anyone?

biscuits on crab bisque

Less biscuit, more bisque )

This turned out really delicious, though I was afraid it wouldn't turn out right because of the Silk substitution. I'm sure it's not the same as having real cream or half and half, but for my lactose intolerant household, it was tasty!

Healthier Corn and Crab Bisque )

Alterations:
- Silk Plain Creamer instead of half and half
- Cayenne pepper instead of crab boil
- After Step 6, baked for 8 minutes topped with Pillsbury instant biscuit dough
- Omitted celery
- Yellow bell pepper instead of red; ♥ my hand blender ^_^

Notes:
Next time I'll use less broth and more Silk Creamer.

baked crab cakes

crab cakes and potatoes

crab cakes, potatoes

I figured out why the recipe was so spicy last time -- I used 2 whole jalapeños instead of just 2 tablespoons. Whoops! I used less this time and although it didn't hurt as much, it just wasn't spicy enough.

Anyway, click here for the recipe.

last post for today

baked crab cakes

in a Lock & Lock )

I hope posting this much in one day isn't obnoxious! This doesn't happen much, so that's my justification ~_^

Anyway, considering the restricted lighting conditions, I'd have to say these pictures turned out better than I would have thought. The crab cakes were very spicy, so if you don't like or can't handle spicy food, I wouldn't suggest this. If you're a sucker for spicy, this is for you. Nowadays I have to go overboard with adding hot sauce or jalapeños to be able to taste the spiciness, but I didn't alter anything in the crab cakes and they came out super hot.

Baked Crab Cakes with Avocado Mousse )

Alterations:
Crab Cakes
- Added tenkasu, leftover from making takoyaki
- Did not mix olive oil and panko, just sprinkled panko before baking
- Refrigerated cakes for about 8 hours before baking

Avocado Mousse
- Used Cool Whip instead of heavy whipping cream

Crab Cakes

This is the mixing stage of the crab cakes I'm going to cook tonight. It's a different recipe than the one I tried last time -- this one is meant to be baked. We're going to a party this afternoon so I made them this morning and put them in the fridge until tonight. I forgot to take a picture of the shaped patties, but I'll post a finished picture and the recipe later.

sushi

sushi and strawberries

sushi and jalapeño cheese bread

Strawberries , bananas, jalapeño cheese bread and avocado in the sushi are from the farmer's market. I also used soy wraps by Yamamotoyama instead of seaweed because I didn't have any seaweed. The soy wraps didn't taste like anything, so if you don't like seaweed, they would be good for you to use. The website doesn't have pictures of the product, unfortunately, but I think I got mine at Safeway.

- Premade bread crumbs instead of fresh
- Wheat bread instead of white

celebratory sushi, take 2

celebratory sushi, take 2

We have avocado rolls, California rolls, and shrimp tempura rolls.

My first attempt at celebratory sushi for my bf's new job was unsuccessful due to the use of dry, 2-day old rice. This time, however, I was successful. Congratulations! ^_^

For lunch tomorrow )

♥ sushi

Sushi

The product of a joint effort between my boyfriend and me.

Unfortunately, I may have to cut down on the sushi because of the high sodium content in both soy sauce and sushi vinegar. (More on that later.)

welcome home feast

Alaskan King crab and mashed potatoes

Tonight my boyfriend bought and cooked Alaskan crab for us and I made garlic cheesy potatoes.

Microwave Crab legs with ghee with pics )
Alterations:
- Legs instead of claws

To the right is my new 2-tier bento box (here for a pic of it open). It arrived in the mail from Canada (eBay seller gatchaman) while I was away. It's considerably bigger than I expected, which is good. And it says "Cookies" all over it, which is even better ^_^
Snoopy cookies

But the bottom has confusing instructions on it:

1. Do not put this lunch box lid into microwave oven.
2. Do not put this lunch box into oven or place near the fire.
3. This lunch box is for food reheating. Make sure to allow space for vapour to escape easily.
4. Temperature range: +120°C - -20°C

This is confusing because it sounds like it's microwave safe, but the numbers don't match any of my other microwave safe bento boxes... Any ideas on that?
