soup nazi, anyone?

biscuits on crab bisque

Less biscuit, more bisque )

This turned out really delicious, though I was afraid it wouldn't turn out right because of the Silk substitution. I'm sure it's not the same as having real cream or half and half, but for my lactose intolerant household, it was tasty!

Healthier Corn and Crab Bisque )

Alterations:
- Silk Plain Creamer instead of half and half
- Cayenne pepper instead of crab boil
- After Step 6, baked for 8 minutes topped with Pillsbury instant biscuit dough
- Omitted celery
- Yellow bell pepper instead of red; ♥ my hand blender ^_^

Notes:
Next time I'll use less broth and more Silk Creamer.

slow cooker spare ribs

Ms. Bento's ribs

+2 )

Oriental Spareribs )

Alterations:
- Added soy sauce and worchestershire sauce
- Decreased cornstarch and sweet & sour sauce
- Used 2.30 lbs more meat

Notes:
In retrospect, I should have increased the cornstarch, but this recipe wasn't what I was originally following. I was using the one they had in their manual, which I couldn't find when I set to make this so I looked it up online. The point is, the requirements were all different for that recipe, but I ended up winging it anyway. They turned out great, though I forgot to add hot sauce.

I had them on high for about 30 minutes in the morning, straight out of the fridge. Then I turned it down to low and left around 7:05am. When I came home at 4:30pm, I unclamped the lid and let it sit on low until about 5:30pm.

steamed halibut with sake-soy glaze

steamed halibut

My bf had dinner ready when I got home from school. ^_^ We didn't have much rice leftover, but I didn't want to cook anymore, so I just packed what I didn't eat for dinner. I may bring something else to snack on in case I get hungry.

Summer school ends about this time next week, so my hiatus will be over when I get back from vacation (if it actually happens)!

My stuff on eBay is ending this Sunday and I want to pass my neglected stuff on to someone who will appreciate them. ~_^

fish tacos with avocado dressing

fish tacos

I used too much lettuce on this recipe, but I don't think I'll make it again because I wasn't that impressed. The dressing was pretty good, but the vinegar flavor was too strong, and the hot sauce I used made it an icky color. Booo.

The recipe was from a cookbook I bought a while ago and I haven't used yet. I don't feel comfortable posting the recipe since that would probably be against copyright.

Turns out, the recipe is online at the Foodnetwork site, here.

This was taken at my office -- somehow I ended up with my cube next to a window so the lighting is better than at my apartment.

been a while

chicken tortilla

This is a pic of tomorrow's lunch while I'm at work, but I had it for lunch today as well. It's been a while since I've actually cooked rather than making a leftover bento. I have to say, I miss it a lot. And after having put so much time and effort into sewing my apron, I had a good time putting it to good use.

Any case, I'm using store-bought tortilla chips today because deep-frying takes so much time and I have a ton of homework to do. It's too bad, though, because home-fried tortilla strips are so much better than the store bought stuff.

sizzling rice soup

sizzling rice soup

This is my first attempt at sizzling rice soup, in my new soup bento. It didn't come out like I wanted it to, and I was sort of wingin the ingredients and process. I'm not going to post a recipe until I get it how I want it. We deep fried the rice, and when you drop it in the soup, it sizzles. Hence the name. ^_^

I bought this soup bento at Jbox a while ago, and I've sadly only used it this once. I haven't been cooking or bento boxing much lately because of issues at home, but hopefully that will change. There was also a paint smudge on the top of the bento (click here) for a pic of it), but I decided it wouldn't be worth paying shipping twice to Japan. Soup bento closed

it was late

Chicken tortilla soup shortcuts

The quickie version of my chicken tortilla soup. Quickie meaning we used store-bought tortilla chips and pre-roasted Safeway chicken.

Still good though. And much to my relief, it doesn't seem to be disagreeing with my already upset stomach. Second week of the new job; can't call in sick now!
