seller dispute
I recently won an eBay auction for a thermal lunch jar very similar to Mr Bento, but it arrived damaged.

The seller, who shall remain nameless until the dispute is settled (or not settled, as the case may be), says it must have happened during shipping. I paid for shipping insurance, but it doesn't seem like I will be getting my money back.

We'll see where it goes, but it's been 6 days of going back and forth, and we're no closer to a resolution than we were a week ago. And I was so excited about this bento, too T_T

If that is damage from shipping, it appears it was not shipped well. Very strange place to have broken, looks more like it was dropped before shipping.

Is it still usable, or does it leak now?

I had the same thought, but I didn't want to accuse the seller, so I said something like, maybe it happened at the manufacturer's. The seller got in a huff, saying all items from Japan are inspected for quality control, etc etc, and the item that was in the pictures of the auction was the exact item I received.

I haven't used it because I want to return it; I can't return used merchandise. I don't know if it would leak, but my fear is that the damage would worsen with use and the bottom would eventually fall off.

if you paid for shipping insurance, shouldn't this be covered?? the seller doesn't sound very cooperative. :( i hope you work things out!

Did you pay with pay pals if so you may want contact pay pals because most items are insured though pay pals. Also you paid for insurance so any shipping damage should be covered but the seller needs to cooperate. Seems like this seller is somewhat dishonest if this damage was done durring shipping the package was shiped extreamly poorly for some much damage to happen in so many different place , however this does look like it was damaged before it was ever packaged.

Thanks for the suggestion! I have contacted Paypal and they told me how to file a complaint against the seller. I emailed the seller one last time; I'm going to see what he says before opening a dispute against him.

I had an item damaged in shipping and escalated to a dispute with Paypal. It took a little time, but I did get all my money back. I'm curious about the seller. The seller I had for my item had multiple complaints against them and NEVER responded to any correspondence. Eventually this person was no longer a member of eBay. Wonder if they popped up under a new ID.

I escalated to a claim with PayPal. Unfortunately, I had to ship the item back to be eligible, which is what I wanted to avoid. Fortunately, shipping costs were considerably less than expected, so hopefully I will still get my full refund.

The seller is tokyosamurai, the member who runs the eBay store Japan Souvenir.

Thanks for the support ^_^ I'll be writing a review and posting it to [info]bentolunch once the whole process is over.

I brought a bento from this seller. I paid for it, and they messaged me two weeks later to tell me the only one left in stock was damaged (that is AFTER I sent them 3 ebay messages to ask when my bento was arriving). When it got here, a month and a half later, it wasn't the one I asked for, and the lid was bent.

Not happy.

I brought an item from this dealer and paid right away. I didn't receive my item for 3 weeks and wrote them an email, they told me the only one they have is damage and they have to wait for the manufacture to send them a new one. I asked them why they didn't let me know earlier and they gave me more excuses and was a bit defensive, but did offer to give me a 50% discount on the shipping on the next order. I never order from them again.

It's to bad that this item was damaged, it is a wonderful product. I bought one for my son at amazon and he now refuses to eat school lunches because he loves to use his bento.
